The Great Cat Debate

(This is Ninja looking very cute and innocent.  Don't let the brat fool you.)

The great debate is whether or not for us to get another cat.  Right now, our current cat is driving us nuts!  He's very cute, but he only snuggles when he's cold.  When he's not cold, he wants nothing to do with being near you, which is fine.  You can hold him in your arms for a few minutes until he squirms and wants to get down.  He is very playful.  He chases balls and toys all over the apartment.  He eats any and all bugs that dare entire our abode.  As you can see, there are pros and cons to having this one cat.
(This is Ninja being very cute for the moment...before he bites.)

One major problem is that we don't let him in the bedroom at night, because if we do he sleeps for a few hours and then wants to play and tries his damndest to wake us up by crying and biting us.  So we close the bedroom door at night.  For awhile, he would scratch at the door every night.  Then we decided to put double sided tape on the door.  He does not scratch the door anymore, but he puts his paws up against the tape and we can can hear him sticking to the tape and then peeling himself off of it.  It makes this really obnoxious squishy noise and he does that while crying.  Half the time you can hear the words "Maaaaa" and "Helllllloooooo" as he cries.  One night my husband was dreaming someone was saying "Jello....Jello...." and then he woke up and realized it was the cat outside the door yelling "hellooooo...hellooooo".
(He gets into everything, and I mean literally, EVERYTHING.)

So, my thoughts and opinions are: If Ninja has another cat in the apartment, he might need less attention from us, thus equalling us receiving more hours of sleep at night.  Usually he starts crying between 3:30 am and 5 am, depending on how hungry he is.  And there are also variations on how long he cries for once we get up and feed him, ranging from 5 minutes to 2 hours...it's painful.
(He likes to help out in the kitchen.  Or, just sit in the carton of eggs.)

So maybe if there is another cat for him to play with at night, he will be more occupied with that and leave us alone?  What do you think?  Desperate times call for desperate measures...our lease only allows us to have one cat but how will they ever know??  I can say we are cat sitting ;)I don't know.  All I know is I feel like I can relate to mothers who have recently given birth and stay up all night because the baby is crying...and letting the cat in the bedroom does not solve the problem.  He cries til we pet him, once we start petting him he gets off the bed and cries some more, trying to entice us to play with him except for the fact that WE ARE STILL SLEEPING AND DON'T WANT TO PLAY!
(Plotting against those stupid humans.)

What do I do????
(When all else fails, a beer box is a great cat toy.)
